Is it normal for the arms to have a roll when bent following brachioplasty? (Photo)

Thank you for your question and pictures regarding an arm band or roll after a brachioplasty. This is rare; however, after performing a brachioplasty, I have seen these arm bands develop. These arm bands are very similar to the arms of some newborns or babies less than a year old. These arm bands are creases in the upper arm. In your case, one needs to determine if these arm bands were there before your arm lift surgery or if they developed after your arm lift surgery. If these arm bands were there before surgery, they should be evident on the pictures taken before your surgery. If the arm bands were there before your surgery, during your brachioplasty significant efforts should have been made to reduce these arm bands. I use a special instrument to break up these arm bands. In addition, to reduce the arm bands, I do more extensive arm liposuction on the other side of the band. If however, there is no indication of the arm bands before surgery, one has to assume that the arm lift or brachioplasty caused the arm band or scar. This is probably due to excessive tension at that specific area of the arm lift. Since it is been two years after your brachioplasty, I would suggest reevaluation by your plastic surgeon. Arm lift revision may require release of the band or preferential liposuction on either side of the arm band.Good luck!
