I was restiched after 2 weeks post op, had clear drainage sometimes light pink.or light brown leakage doctor said it would be normal since he had restiched me then i felt like the bandages where to wet i removed them i sent him pictures he said it looked clean and not like the stiches ripped. I am concerned and worried i feel like im never going to heal. Could it be that im healing from the inside out? I have no pain no fever and ive been on antibiotics. I was also told to stay braless.

Answer: This Is Not A Good Thing Hello,I am concerned you are experiencing the beginnings of implant extrusion, a bacteria-based problem that will not go away by restitching the incision. The fact that your doctor did re-stitch it makes me concerned about his competence. If he is not an ABPS certified/ASAPS member surgeon, I urge you to seek care from someone who is. If I am correct, you will need to remove this implant (and preferably the other implant too). The longer you wait, the more tissue destruction will occur due to infection. Best of luck.

Answer: BA incision Dear millerbby,I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Should I be concerned about delayed healing after #breastaugmentation? Any opening of the breast augmentation incision should be taken seriously. Reclosing the incision under sterile technique with antibiotic coverage is sometimes done to save an implant that is at risk for exposure/extrusion/infection. I disagree with one of the other respondents that the mere fact the surgeon tried to reclose the wound should bring his competence into question; whether the surgeon "gets away with it" or not really depends on whether bacterial contamination had already set in by the time the reclosure attempt was performed. I have successfully prevented infection issues with judicious sterile debridement and reclosure of a wound with antibiotic coverage in the occasional patient with a healing issue in the incision. However, in the presence of brownish drainage that you describe, I'd be very concerned about infection at that time, and probably would recommend exploration in the operating room with a washout of the space where the implant sits; if pus or significant inflammatory reaction were encountered in the operating room, removal of the implant would be likely. That you are continuing to have healing issues (with ongoing drainage, if I read your post correctly) is very concerning and you should be seen in the office by the surgeon. Consider getting a second opinion if you are not happy with the progress. If you are a smoker, you should absolutely refrain from any and all nicotine exposure immediately.
