No, I don't recommend doing a TCA cross yourself, due to the risk of complications and scarring. For ice pick scars, a combination approach will give the most improvement. These types of scars need a combination of lasers, microneedling/prp, TCA cross, punch excision and fillers. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an acne scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Thank you for your question. I don't think TCA CROSS is a safe procedure to perform at home. High concentration TCA is an extremely strong acid - if used incorrectly, it can cause permanent damage to the skin. I have seen patients who have attempted home treatments with TCA for a variety of reasons, and have developed extensive scarring and permanent hypopigmentation of the skin as a result. That said, when done correctly, TCA CROSS is a highly effective treatment for deeper acne scars, and in combination with a resurfacing laser, is one of my favorite treatments for acne scarring.I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon with extensive experience in chemical peels and acne scarring treatments to discuss your treatment options. Best of luck!
TCA can cause severe scars if done incorrectly. This procedure does not work that well and if done incorrectly, can leave severe permanent scars.
