Is it safe to have Emsella if I have an IUD in place?

Interested in having the esmella I have interstitial cystitis , endometriosis and my IUD helps keep my cycles in check but due to the I.C suffer from pelvic floor laxity. Am I a candidate with my Lylettq IUD still in place?

Hi and thank you for your interest in the BTL Emsella chair. Yes you are a candiate for Emsella with a Liletta IUD in place. The only IUD that would not be compatible would be the Paragard (copper) IUD due to the metal. Emsella is a great option to treat urinary incontinence and build and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, much more than traditional pelvic floor therapy can do.

This is a great question. Emsella uses HIFEM (High Intensity Focal Electro Magnetic Energy) to contract, lift and tone the pelvic floor muscles. The technology using magnetic energy is safe in patients with IUD's that are NOT copper. If you have any metal in your body, treatments using electromagnetic energy are not reccomended.

Hello, the Emsella is a great treatment for pelvic floor laxity as it really helps! Your IUD should not be a problem as it is plastic and will not be affected by the electromagnetic waves. However, I would proceed with caution as some people with cystitis or endometriosis could have flare ups with this treatment. I would start at a lower percentage or intensity on your 2-3 treatment and slowly increase you over time to see if you have any flares. You would most likely need more than the recommend 6 initial treatments to see the same results because you would want to monitor for flares.
