Rock hard nose - is it edema or hanging columella? (Photo)

Question

Its been 9 months since rhinoplasty and the tip of my nose and collumella is still hard. Is that the reason when i smile it look like i habe hanging collumella and when ii have straight face it looks good. Will it get “flatter” as it gets softer over time or will i need revsion to fix it?? ALSO does edema effect collumella ?? IF i derorate my tip will it fix it ?? Without having to cut my collumella? my collumella looks like that only when i smile in pic Its all stressing me out thank you

I don't believe that you have a hanging columella either at rest or with smiling. Since your cheeks will pull your nostrils wider when you smile, there will naturally be a change in the appearance of the bottom of your nose. In my opinion, you do not have an unusual appearance to your Columella. Firmness of the columella may take longer than one year to completely go away if it is due to swelling. Sometimes cartilage grafts are used at the base of somebody's nose and this may have feel firm to the touch as well. Definitely don't stress about your nose! Wishing you well. At 9 months, most of the swelling should be gone.  However, you can still have some swelling.  I would recommend giving it at least 1 year before doing anything.  I would not recommend a revision.

Your description is typical of what can happen with a cartilage graft in your columella. They call it a columellar strut.  I’ve removed many because of complaints such as yours
