Can the fat that is removed from the lower lid be used to add to the upper lid?
Answer: Fat grafting Thank you for you question. Fat grafting is an excellent way to add volume to the face and fix any defects that might be present. It is common to add fat to the lower and upper eyelids. It is my guess that you probably need to redistribute the fat in your lower lid to create a smooth, youthful tear trough and get rid of any bags that might be present. Removing fat from the lower lids can cause a hollowness, creating a dark circle and tired look. Redistribution of fat in the tear troughs is done through a tiny incision under the lashes. This is a very common procedure and yields an excellent result. The best donor sites for fat grafting is usually the tummy or inner thighs. These areas have the best fat with higher concentrations of stem cells, giving the best results. I recommend having a consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon experienced in fat grafting. They can recommend the best procedure for your specific anatomy. In our office, we offer 3D imaging to give our patients an accurate idea of what their final result will look like. Good luck!

Answer: Fat fat transfer is a common procedure. However, removing a large amount of fat from the lower lids is rarely done or needed any more. Adding fat to the upper lids can be done but this is usually done with very fine particles of fat obtained with liposuction drone elsewhere. I would suggest seeing a Board-certified plastic surgeon who is familiar with these techniques. The first thing you need to do is have a consultation about periocular aesthetics and where the fat needs to be removed and where it needs to be placed. The second conversation will be about the process of doing that. Best of luck! Dr. Boschert
