Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid which is a collagen precursor which is naturally found in the human body. There are no allergic reactions to the product. It is normal to form a brief reaction to the needle injections along the area injected. Bruising and swelling may frequently last up to a week.I hope this helps.- Dr. Bryson Richards
Hi A. Swelling can be quite common after Restylane injections, while the heat you are describing is not so common.Swelling occurs most often in our practice after tear trough injections under the eye and we use a combination of Benadryl, Motrin and gentle icing to get control of it over a 1-3 day period. The heat you are describing could be the result of general inflammation or it could be a response to the lidocaine in the product. Usually this type of reaction would be very mild and is not generally described as being really hot so if this feeling persists, you should contact your injector. For examples of before and after photos for other Los Angeles Restylane injection patients, click the link below.
It is normal to have swelling and tenderness after Restylane injection. If you feel that something is not right or have any questions or concerns at all I would strongly suggest contacting your injector as opposed to the Internet. If your injector is not available at all times or does not have someone else who is covering for them, then find another injector.
I suggest speaking to your injection physician, although it is normal to have swelling after procedure it not to have pain or irritation. Best, Dr. Emer.
