Does this look normal? Am I doing the correct wound care? (Photos)

I have T junction skin breakdown. I am super nervous I was an out of town patient. The doctor says to keep it clean and put gauze on it and let it dry out to heal. He called it mechanical debridement. Should I be putting a wound care cream on it? I am almost 4 weeks post op and I just want it gone.

It is not uncommon to have these wound openings at the T junction, just keep the area dry and covered with gauze and continue to follow up with your PS.

It's hard to really say what would be the best care, based on the pictures.  I would recommend staying in good contact with your surgeon, who should be able to guide you through the process.  There is always the option of going back for an in person evaluation if that is felt to be helpful.Good luck and take care,Dr. Howell

Wound dehiscence to the T-junction (the area where the vertical and horizontal incisions meet) is common with this type of surgery.  Typically these wounds heal with time and appropriate wound care.  I recommend you continue to follow your surgeons recommendations for wound care.  As always, if you feel the wounds are not improving or are getting worse, you should contact your surgeon for further suggestions.

Your doctor told you correctly to keep the area clean as it slowly heals itself and ofcourse you are interested in detail and accurate care as the results on the long run will be great
