Everyone is different. Some patients can go weeks without a temporary crown with no shifting. Some patient loose a temporary over a weekend and the teeth shift considerably. Definitely get a new temp as soon as you can. But a few days shouldn't create too much of an issue.

It usually takes more days than 3 to have a considerable amount of shifting, so it could need reprep. I recommend you to see your dentist or somebody from the staff Monday.
Both routes are a viable option, but context is needed. Whether you have the root canal performed by your General Dentist or be referred to have it be done by an Endodontist is all a matter of how comfortable and skilled your General Dentist is with performing the root canal himself/herself...
I would recommend finding a dentist with a Tekscan. They will be able to digitally assess your bite and pinpoint where the discrepancy is.
