I've been trying to find info on what actually happens to tissue during liposuction, but there's not much available out there for lay people. Will eating collagen and gelatin products help post-lipo to limit long term damage?

Even if you wanted liposuction of the abdomen the presence of an abdominal hernia is not a contraindication. The surgeon would certainly have to be careful. Liposuction of the waist is not an issue.

When evaluating area if one pages the skin and the distance between the two fingers is an inch or more liposuction may be of benefit. There are other areas where a smaller fold might still yield good results. The pubic area is one such.
