Hello I had a bbl just over three months ago now. I have very fair skin and had a lot of swelling and bruising. Those two seemed to go away but am left with patchy discolouration, pic below- can you tell me if this is normal and if there is anything I can do to fade it faster? I have it on my stomach thighs and arms . Is this Hemosiderine or just normal discolouration ? Thank you
Answer: Skin discoloration after BBL Obviously, an in person examination is the ideal to determine what is happening, but from the photos you sent it looks like you're still showing normal postoperative changes associated with inflammation and blood to breakdown. I would certainly discuss the matter with your surgeon, but aggressive massage may also help. Skin discoloring agents and certain laser therapies may also help in prolonged cases. It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has extensive experience in buttock augmentation. I wish you the best. Dr. Gabbay.

Answer: Brazilian Butt Lift A good candidate has enough fat available for transfer in the procedure. The amount of fat that can be transferred in a BBL depends on how much fat the patient has to harvest and the amount of space there is to move the fat into. It is recommended for the patient to have a BMI of 30 or less. If you are too thin, a Brazilian Butt Lift may not be possible.

Answer: BRUISING AND DISCOLORATION By looking at your photos your discoloration is mostly from the inflammation and healing process on the areas where you had the liposuction done, there may be some hemosiderin deposits too. In cold weather may look even worse. Uusally once the inflammation goes away and the healing process is complete the discoloration goes away. Avoid sun exposure of those areas to decrease the chances of hyperpigmentation. Some lymphatic drainage massage will help with the inflammation too.

Answer: Discoloration after liposuction. The discoloration scene from bruising after surgery or drama is caused by the breakdown of red blood cells. There is always some blood left in the tissues after liposuction. The more blood that's left behind the more bruising someone will develop. The hemoglobin in the red blood cells is broken down through a series of chemical reactions. The final breakdown product is bile which is used for fat absorption in the intestines. Each of the different breakdown products of hemoglobin have different colors or pigments. For example two of these are bilirubin and biliverdin.Biliverdin as the name implies has a greenish color.Bilirubin on the other hand tends to have a more yellowish color.Hemosiderin is the deposit of iron inside cells. Most often cells related to the immune system. The discoloration of hemosiderin can be long-lasting.while most bruising is gone at three months discoloration after surgery can take longer to dissipate. This is of course much more transparent and people with fair skin. The most important way to minimize this is the careful use of tumescent solution(minimizes bleeding) during the surgical procedure as well as patients avoiding the use of over-the-counter pain medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen before the surgery. There is no treatment option other than time. This type of discoloration can take well over a year to dissipate.I anticipate you will see significant improvements over the next three months.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
