I had prep work done on my lower left molar for a crown 3 days ago. They placed a temporary crown on it. Now it hurts when pressure is applied to the tooth. I wasn't sure if it still needed time to feel better due to it being worked on a few days ago? Or if is something else. It's also sensitive to cold. Thanks in advance
Answer: Painful temp Sorry to hear you are having discomfort with your temporary. It can be an issue with your occlusion on the temporary crown. If the opposing tooth is hitting heavily on the temporary, it can "bruise" the ligaments that hold the tooth into the bone, set up inflammation and be the source of pain when applying pressure. The tooth can also become hypersensitive to cold because the temporary margin may not be covering all the tooth structure, inflammation in the gums secondary to a rough temp can also allow cold liquids to contact that more sensitive part of the tooth. Let your dentist know what symptoms you are experiencing and they may have you come back into the office, potentially make some adjustments to your temporary and your tooth will be feeling much better. Hope this helps.

Answer: Pain on temporary crown Hi: Since temporary crowns are not completely sealed, it is normal to have temperature sensitivity with them. In addition, its best not to chew on a temporary crown until the final restoration has been placed. Make sure your bite is ok on the temporary as well. Best, Dr. Maddahi

Answer: Pressure pain on your temporary Hi, thanks for sending your question. Often when you have a temporary placed your bite may be slightly tall which may cause sensitive and discomfort. This can easily be checked and adjusted while you are waiting for the permanent crowns to be made with the lab. Please visit your dentist and have him evaluate your bite, or the pressure on the teeth. All the best.

Answer: Your Temporary Crown Problem It is very possible that you just have to have an adjustment on your temporary crown due to a bite discrpenecy. This can happen sometimes. Just call your dentist and have him check your bite. It depends also on whether your crown was made from an impression of your existing tooth or a "stock" set of temporary crowns. The latter may need more of an adjustment. The sensitivity is sometimes common with temporaries because they don't fit as well as the permanent crowns do. Ask your dentist about this too. I hope this helps you.
