Is it safe to apply Silvadene to a wound from moh's surgery without washing and drying the wound?

My plastic surgeon did a skin graft 3 weeks ago and is not telling me to apply Silvadene twice daily. He told me not to wipe or rub the scab but I don't see how I can wash the wound without touching it. Does it have to be washed before applying Silvadene? Thank you
