Venous malformations of the lips are treated in a number of ways.  When the "lake" or pocket is large enough, it can be injected with a sclerosant to collapse it (sclerotherapy).  When the pocket is not large enough, then surgical excision is the way to go.  Obviously, it must be done carefully in order to avoid distorting the lip.  Also, it is possible to leave a small amount behind because of the diffuse nature of venous malformations such as yours.  Lasers do not work well for this because the malformation lies deeper than what the laser can reach safely.
