Am I allowed to clean inside of my nose after a rhinoplasty/septoplasty?

I had septoplasty and a rhinoplasty surgery 2 weeks ago. I have a lot of dry blood and boogers in my nose. I irrigate my nose with salt and water twice a day. Have a lot of boogers and it's really bothering me and am discusted when I look up my nostrils. Was wondering whether I'm allowed to clean it and how am I supposed to bring it down because it's not working with salt and water.

Thank you for your question. A drip pad, or mustache dressing, is commonly applied after surgery to address the drainage. Washcloths soaked in water that can be folded into an inverted 'V' configuration can be easily draped over the nose and can fit right into the area that needs the ice pack. Q tips soaked in water are a great option also. I suggest that you discuss best healing practices and recovery expectations with your board certified facial plastic surgeon.

I would strongly advise you to check with your surgeon to see what else they recommend. I have patients use hydrogen peroxide on a q tip only as far as the cotton end goes, but each surgeon is different.

I usually allow my patients to gently clean their nose with a cotton swab after they get out of the shower.  This after about a week out after the splint is removed.
