Can IPL / AFT / BBL cause fat loss / subcutaneous atrophy / dermal and or collagen atrophy?

I would like to know the general consensus in regards to IPL devices causing some or all of the aforementioned complications. If it can reach deep enough to stimulate collagen, can it also cause thermal damage to collagen and elastin and therefore cause dermal atrophy, etc?

No, if used appropriately, it should not cause fat loss or atrophy. I recommend combining IPL with microneedling/prp to improve outcomes. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Of course, IPL like any laser treatment has risks. However, IPL when performed by an experienced provider is a safe and effective treatment for skin rejuvenation. I would not be concerned about scaring and atrophy as long as you are seeing a highly trained and skilled provider, you are the right skin type for IPL and you have avoided sun exposure prior to the treatment.
