Is this a scar or a PIH / PIE? (photos)

Question

I met with a road accident two weeks back and fell on my chin and the topmost layer was scraped off. My local doctor said it's a superficial injury and prescribed me some painkillers and an antibiotic ointment. It didn't scab but new skin formed over it after a week. The new skin was white at first but now it has turned reddish brown. My dermatologist prescribed me a silicone gel for a month. Is this the right treatment and how long will it take to make it fade?

It appears you have scarring and it should be evaluated by a scar expert, cosmetic dermatologist with laser and surgery experience.  You will need a series of treatments along with appropriate skin care.  Often fraxel combined with microneedling helps for early wounds.  Best, Dr. Emer.

You are likely still healing from your injury at two weeks. There is the possibility of PIH or traumatic tattooing with this kind of injury, but you need to allow the area to heal. Then you should continue to follow up with your doctor to ensure you progress as planned. Keep in mind that scars of this nature will fade but never disappear. Continue to follow up with your surgeon to ensure that you progress as planned.
