I had a gap in front teeth which I got corrected using 2 porcelain veneers. But the veneers appear very bulky and protrude out. My teeth were considerably ground down to get the veneers set, so I cannot go back to my original teeth now. Will lumineers be a better option for me because they are thinner? Also since my original teeth have been ground down the overall effect should be less bulky. I am not keen on grinding down more of my healthy teeth and getting 6 or 8 veneers.

Lumineers work best for teeth that are already straight or nearly straight in line. Based on photo, your best option would be to get them straight first with any form of braces (e.g. invisalign which you can't see) and then veneers if you still need them.
