Closed rhinoplasty/septoplasty 1 year ago, haven't been able to breathe well. Surgeon advising another surgery?

Hello. I had a closed rhinoplasty/septoplasty one year ago. I haven’t been able to breathe well through my right nostril sine the surgery was performed. I have seen the surgeon a number of times and have expressed that my quality of life has been seriously affected. The surgeon dismisses my problem and gives me a steroid injection. Now that I am at the one year mark the surgeon is advising another surgery to open the airway. I feel very anxious trusting this surgeon again. Advice on proceeding?

If you have not had any improvement in breathing 1 year after your original surgery, it is very unlikely that your breathing will improve without surgical intervention. Your airway may need to be opened with correction of either deviated septum or opening of narrowed nasal valve or both.

Hello there! If you're at 1 year and the procedure was performed in a closed fashion, you've likely reached a majority of your healing. Steroid injections should have helped to a degree at this time. If you're uncomfortable with your surgeon, I would suggest you research another to see if improvement can be made. You should feel as comfortable as possible with your surgeon. There are definitely options to improve your airway after a closed rhinoplasty. Hope this helps you!
