Hello, I'm really insecure of my side profile because I feel like I have the combo weak chin + long nose. I read recently that mouth breathing could be one of the causes of a weak chin. Is it true? As I have allergies I'm a part time mouth breather... Should I get a chin implant to correct this, and rhinoplasty? I wonder if I have a deviated septum because of allergies. Thank you for your answers.

Answer: Weak chin? Chin augmentation No, this is unlikely the cause of your weak chin. You have a few options to improve your chin and jawline. If you’re not sure you’re ready for surgery, but still want to improve and strengthen your chin and jawline, I’d suggest augmenting your chin and jaw with Sculptra and/or Voluma. If you like your new look, you can make it permanent with a chin implant. I recommend getting an evaluation to go over your desired results. I hope that helps.

Answer: Born with your anatomy... Odin123: We now know from twin studies that environment has little to no permanent impact on anyone's anatomy. It looks like you were born with a chin and jaw that are smaller than the anatomy of the upper two thirds of your face. It is much more likely that having this configuration (and the related inborn internal anatomy) causes your mouth breathing, instead of the other way around. Your nose appears to be attractive, masculine, and proportionate with the upper two thirds of your face -- so procedures that enhance the size and masculinity of your chin and jaw line would make more sense to bring the whole face into balance. There are now less-invasive methods to do just that, if the more invasive and expensive bony work is not of interest to you. David Teplica MD, MFA
