Question

Are veins like this hereditary because my toddler son has a very similar one on his forehead. How old would he have to be to remove his, I am fearful once he starts school he will be picked on. Any advice on this for both of us would be appreciated. I feel so ugly all the time and that I look like Frankenstein. I am near Lynchburg, VA but very willing to travel to fix this!

It’s important to distinguish between varicose veins and spider veins when choosing between laser therapy, sclerotherapy, and vein surgery. With two board certified vein specialists, our center uses a combination of visual examination, functional flow measurements, ultrasound, transillumination, and infrared light to map out vein networks prior to therapy. Lasers can be used to treat deep varicose vein insufficiency, vein perforators, and varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is ideal for spider veins and reticular veins. Whereas surgery is reserved for severely incompetent varicose vein segments.

These veins can be successfully treated.  Many people have these and feel it makes them look "angry".  Firstly you should find an experienced vascular, facial plastic, surgeon who has treated many of these.  They can be treated with a combination of injections, removal or dividing.  It would depend upon what is seen at your consultation.  I advise lots of research, perhaps several consultations before making your decision.  I advise against any intervention with your toddler. I treat forehead veins either with sclerotherapy alone or with a combination of sclerotherapy and microphlebectomies.  Your veins looks like it can be treated by sclerotherapy alone but it may take several sessions.  I treated a lady several weeks ago with a similar vein.  Forehead veins can be genetic.  Your toddler's vein should be left alone as it may spontaneously resolve.  When he is in his teen years it can be treated.  See a vein specialist.
