My neck beard hair grows in all directions and causes ingrown hair and painful red bumps after shaving. Will laser hair removal on neck area help? How many treatments will I need and will it cause any scarring or painful red spots after laser treatment ?

Thank you for your question! You can use laser hair removal to remove beard hair. My estimation is that it will probably take between 5-6 treatments. The most common side effects of laser hair removal are skin irritation at the site of treatment, redness, or swelling. These are usually temporary and will subside.

Yes.....laser hair removal is wonderful  for eliminating ingrown hairs and bumps.  Just know that the hair loss will be permanent.  It might interfere with your ability to grow a beard in the future.  Perhaps you want to limit it to your neck.

I typically perform 6 treatments, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. Most newer machines are not painful, but you can have a topical anesthetic  cream applied before (takes about 15 to 30 minutes to work) to assure comfort.

Laser hair removal is a great treatment to have when patients are experiencing ingrown hairs. Typically, patients will need 6-8 treatments. You can get some pigmentation or scaring if you have a darker skin type. If this is the case, sometimes a test spot to make sure it does not scar you is helpful.

You would do very well with laser hair removal. The laser uses the pigment in your hair as an absorptive target for the energy. The laser energy is absorbed and it destroys the hair follicle. Side effects from laser hair removal can include redness, irritation, swelling and raised hair follicles. These are all temporary and should subside within 24-48 hours. To give a rough estimate on the number treatments would need I would say between 6-8 txs, facial hair can be stubborn.
