Would laser hair removal work on my arm hair? (Photo)

Question

I’ve been doing a little bit of research but i haven’t found much info about arm hair removal.

Kristin M. Baird, MD · Answer

Yes, laser hair removal can be performed on arms and can give very nice results. It is important to evaluate the type of hair, color of hair, and skin tone to determine the most appropriate laser for you. The most ideal candidate has lighter skin and dark hair and will see results sooner. Darker skin types require different lasers/settings and will likely need more treatments. Please consult a board certified dermatologist experienced in laser hair removal. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question. Yes, laser hair removal treatment can be done on the arms. Laser hair removal works best on patients with light skin and dark hair. It typically takes 6-9 sessions spaced 4-8 weeks apart to see 70-90% reduction. I recommend having a consultation with an expert technician to determine the best treatment plan for you. Best of Luck!

Joyce Davis, MD · Answer

Yes! It works extremely well for the arms. Shave your arms the night before treatment for optimum results. Expect 6 treatments. You will be delighted with the results.

Laser hair removal can be performed safely in any area of your body. It is important to get a consult with an experienced physician in laser technology since the type of laser and the strength of the laser light needs to target the specific skin type as well as the hair color.Love Your Body. Dr DeJuliis

Yes, you can definitely undergo laser hair removal for your arms. The mechanism of action of the laser for hair removal on the arms, is just the same, as it is for any other part of the body.  Laser hair removal is a very good, hassle free option for permanent hair reduction. Go ahead, and enjoy your results!

Sheryl D. Clark, MD, FAAD · Answer

Dear bluebirdie:Sure, laser can be used to remove hair from ANY part of the face or body.  patients with dark hair and fair skin are the easiest to treat and will have the quickest and best response. It is important to have treatments overseen by a board-certified dermatologist so that you don’t burn and so that the hairs are permanently eliminated rather than just stunned. Pamela Stuart, MD · Answer

Absolutely. From your photo, the hair appears dark in color and your skin color appears fair. This is a winning combination for laser hair removal treatments. I would be sure to find a physician who has experience with laser hair removal, and be sure to have them discuss the number off treatments and type of laser they would recommend. Typically a diode laser can be used for your type of hair and skin color, and this usually requires 5-6 treatments for significant removal. You should do well.Best wishes,
