Answer: Returning to activities after tummy tuck
I would follow through with your plastic surgeons recommendations. We strongly recommend core strengthening exercises and allow this to commence approximately 3 weeks after surgery. Pain may be an indication that you are doing exercises that stress the repair rather than with the stitches to help approximate the muscles.

Answer: Going back to work as an exotic dancer after a tummy tuck
A tummy tuck is a safe and effective procedure to contour the abdomen, create a tight waist, and remove extra skin, fat, and stretch marks.
In our practice, we have performed abdominal contouring and tummy tucks in men and women from all walks of life. As you have a profession that will require you to show off your abdomen is essential that you work with a plastic surgeon that is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Such a doctor will be able to carefully evaluate you and create a surgical plan that will address your concerns, meet your aesthetic goals, and most importantly create surgical incisions and scars that will be very well hidden.
In our practice here in Miami, we find that the majority patients request a tiny incision very low on their pelvis. This allows them to where small bikinis, return to their active lifestyle, and keeping their tummy tuck a secret.

Answer: Recovery After Tummy Tuck
First, please follow the recommendations of your surgeon. For my patients, I usually recommend no heavy lifting or strenuous activity (no exercise) for 4to 6 weeks after tummy tuck. After six weeks, I encourage patients to slowly resume exercise routines *gradually*. Remember, during the six week postoperative period - you will be deconditioned. I do prepare patients to notice some increased swelling once exercise is resumed. Over the next several weeks, this post-exercise edema will no longer manifest. Now if you are experiencing some pain with the activity you describe - your body is not ready. Talk to your surgeon.

Answer: Follow your doctor's advice
If it still hurts when you try to dance and your doctor doesn't want you doing situps, I would follow his advice. I usually allow my patients to go back to their normal routine 4 weeks after surgery but each of us is different as is each patient. You won't go wrong following his advice.
