Can you make your ears smaller in length? (Photo)

Question

I've only seen before and Afters of ears that stuck out getting tucked in. Mine don't stick out that much, that's not what bothers me, I feel like they're too long in length, can that be fixed?

Thank you for your question. From your pictures, your ear doesn’t look overly long - it seems to be proportional. It is possible to shorten your earlobe, however, it will leave noticeable scars, so there is definitely a trade-off. That being said, my best advice would be to schedule a consultation with a specialist plastic surgeon who is experienced in ear surgery. Yes it is possible to shorten the length of ears that may seem too tall in vertical height.  This can be done surgically by removing a wedge of skin and cartilage.  Make sure you consult with an experienced and board certified facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns.

Thanks for your photos and your question.Yes the ears can be shortened ( height reduced). It is not a common request.The ear lobes can occasionally be long, although your ear lobe looks proportional.When Plastic Surgeons treat ear skin cancers surgically  the ear invariably ends up shorter in length. But this comes with a scar in front and behind the ear + excision of the cartilage and a slight prominence in the ear.  So it all depends on what is more important. May I suggest that you consult with a Plastic Surgeon at your convenience to discuss options.Best wishes

Thank you for your question and including photos. Yes you can shorten the length of your ear by shortening your ear lobe. I don't recommend making changes to your helix because that will not look natural and will change the original contour. I recommend making a consultation with a surgeon so they can do an evaluation in person and discuss your concerns. Best of luck!

You are right, otoplasty changes the sideway projection of ears.  There are surgical techniques that are used to correct the length of the ear however they will leave scars in front and behind your ears.  There are changes that can be made to the ear lobe to make the ear appear shorter.  Its best to consult a facial plastic surgeon for a face to face assessment.  Hope this is helpful.
