Is a crown necessary after a root canal? How long can I get away with not getting a crown?

When a root canal is done the tooth becomes dry and brittle.  Without a crown to protect it you can always crack the tooth while eating.  It’s best to get a crown as soon as possible.

Molars, the teeth in the back of the mouth,  receive the most amount of stress and prone to breakage the most. Root canal is the a great way to save your tooth. It needs to be protected though by placing a crown over it. Think about this this way. A live tree is very strong due to the nourishment it receives  through it's roots.  A dry tree is a lot weaker. It will stand there unless a very strong wind will blow it down due to its force. A tooth without a nerve is just like that dry tree.Research shows that the most optimal time to get a crown  after a root canal therapy is within 1-2 weeks.

Crown is necessary after having root canal treatment. As it supply the finishing touch after a root canal and also helps to seal the tooth and strengthening it for the long term.
If you are thinking to have crown after 6 months then it will cause your teeth to lose strength and become likely to fracture.
