Hi, thanks for your question. In general, you will get more volume to the buttocks because adding fat to shape it will also add volume. That being said, fat can be placed in the areas where you would like more roundness. This can be placed more out to the sides, more on top, or more centrally. Also, liposuction above the buttocks and around the lower back will also help shape the backside. Yes you can certainly tailor whatever results you're going for to the technique.  You can just have liposuction by itself if you want, or you can just inject a small amount of fat instead of everything that is able to be.  Seeing a board certified PS who knows the anatomy and is safe is most important.  It's your body and your money, so for the most part we plastic surgeons are here to help you achieve your goal and have a frank but open discussion.

An important part of the Brazilian butt lift is the Liposuction/ Liposculpture. The waist is contoured three dimensionally and then this fat can be used to augment the buttocks. It does not have to be ALL used however, and only a small portion as deemed adequate can be used and the rest thrown away. The decision-making with regards to how much is used and how much is thrown away is a discussion between you and your plastic surgeon. 
 In your case after the waist and abdomen are contoured in a proportional and esthetic manner, a small amount of fat grafts can be injected to improve the roundness and correct the cellulite. The rest would be discarded.
