Question

I had a deviated septum done on May 22, 2018. I was told by my surgeon that I would still have difficulty breathing due to allergies. I thought that getting the surgery it would correct this. Did she just lie because it wasn't done properly? She was disappointed in herself because she didn't remove more of the bulbous tip. Should I see another specialist for a second consultation?. I just want to breathe better.

For the breathing issue you might want to see an ENT surgeon. You probably would benefit from inferior turbinate reduction.

Thanks for the question.  A properly done septoplasty removes the cartilage and bone inside the nose that is crooked so that you may receive airflow on both sides of your nose.  While this improves breathing, it does not treat allergies, which is a medical, not surgical disease.  Allergies are treated with antihistamines, a variety of nasal sprays, and possibly allergy shots or drops under the tongue.  Unfortunately, a bulbous tip has nothing to do with a septoplasty or breathing problems. That is improved by rhinoplasty, not septoplasty.  Hope this helps!
