Fractora is a form of microneedling that uses radiofrequency to heat the treated target tissues, causing tightening. It may also resurface the skin depending on how it’s done. The effect of microneedling with radiofrequency depends on a number of factors, including the length of needles used and whether or not those needles are coated. The choice of needles used and the settings depends on what specifically is being targeted. This affects whether or not the surface of the skin is treated in addition to the deeper layer(s). Treatments that affect the more superficial layers of the skin, resurface the skin by a different mechanism than fractional lasers do, but still resurface skin in a fractional way. The tiny heated puncture wounds caused by the pins stimulate wound healing and collagen formation and shrink the areas that they have contacted. These treatments, like any other tissue tightening or resurfacing procedures cause microscopic tissue injuries and that’s why they work. Therefore they require a healing time. This usually corresponds to a full skin renewal cycle of approximately 6 weeks. In general, only 1 to 2 Fractora treatments is required. Fractora is not a technology that is done over and over. It is a corrective technology rather than one for prevention and maintenance. A board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist experienced in Fractora can assess you and determine which type of treatment is appropriate for your needs and skin type.
