Thank you for your question. How much of the fat survives during a fat transfer is highlyvariable and is dependent on several variables including surgeon, surgicaltechnique, technique of fat grafting, health of the patient, and post-operative compliance by thepatient. Extreme heat/coldcompresses are usually discouraged post-operatively as they can cause burns onthe patient without the patient being aware because the skin in the surgicalarea is usually numb immediately post op. We usually provide our patients with a detailed outline of recommendedpost op instructions that we have found help encourage the maximum amount offat survival. Your board certifiedplastic surgeon should be able to provide you with their recommendations foryour post-op recovery.Good luckwith your journey!
The fat survival is dependent mainly on surgical technique and the amount of fat injected in relation to the volume of the buttock. There are no studies showing heating the area will improve fat survival. I will also cautioned you about heating or cooling pads after plastic surgery since your skin sensation is likely decreased and you might be at risk for skin damage. Congratulations on your recent procedure. Best to you!
There are no known external methods, temperature included, that are proven to help injected fat survive better. I would avoid the application of heat as you also do not want to promote fat breakdown or increase the risk of infection.
