How to Assist Peeling After 12.5% TCA Peel?

I am a black woman with medium brown skin, and am six days into a 12.5% TCA peel. This is my first attempt at a chemical peel. I did a home peel. I have a lot of light peeling, however, I am frustrated about assisting the peeling process without scarring my skin. What can I do to assist in the process?

Home peels are worthwhile, but do not replace a medical grade peel by an experienced physician.  I perform 10 to 30 percent TCA peels in my office on patients of all skin types, with much success.

I would avoid picking at the skin after a chemical pee because that will put you at greater risk for scarring. Frequent application of a bland moisturizer (e.g. Aveeno) will help speed up the healing/peeling process. Patience really is a virtue when it comes to chemical peels.

I hope I have answered your question.
