6 months after rhinoplasty and nose is healing crooked - does the bone take longer to heal? (photos)

Hello, I just had some questions about rhinoplasty healing. My doctor is not great at communicating and usually my question is never answered. As my nose is healing around 6 months or so, I am starting to realize its becoming crooked and I don’t know if its because im sleeping on my side. There is a visible bump at the side of my nose where he did an osteotomy, almost like that bone isnt straight. Does the bone itself take time to heal? Can it be straightened out my sleeping on back instead?

Sleeping on one side or the other is NOT why changes are happening to the nose. This is usually secondary to several potential issues
1) poor surgical technique with visible changes now possible because the edema/swelling has decreased
2) scar contracture forces
3) residual asymmetry that was not addressed

Postoperative swelling after rhinoplasty may last longer than a year in particular in the tip area. Until swelling is completely resolved it is difficult to evaluate final result. Small irregularities may improve or disappear while larger may need surgical revision. Placement of tapes over night, even this far after surgery, may help to control and diminish swelling. Stay in touch with your surgeon.

In general, people get closer to their final result as swelling resolves. If you are seeing a more crooked nasal appearance, and if your doctor is not explaining this to you, consider getting a second opinion from another reputable rhinoplasty specialist. Much more information is needed, such as a full set of facial and nasal photographs from all angles to make a determination about how best to proceed. A copy of your operator report would also be helpful to find out what maneuvers were accomplished in your first open rhinoplasty procedure. You need to wait at least one year before embarking on a revision procedure, which can be done with a closed rhinoplasty approach. Your nasal bones appear to be too wide based on the remainder of your nose, but a full set of pictures are required to make that determination.
