I’m having pain about a month after original root canal and dental crown 2 weeks ago.

Question

I had a root canal a month ago and permanent crown placed about 2 weeks ago. I woke up last night with very sharp pain, especially when pressing on the tooth. After some initial discomfort, I had been pain free (I also had a filling on a neighboring tooth so there was a lot going on). No real sensitivity to hot/cold, and taking a couple Advil seems to alleviate the worst of the pain

Hi!  Since this pain happened in the middle of the night, you may be clenching or grinding your teeth when you sleep.  We have no control over the pressure we place on our teeth when we sleep, and some studies show that we can apply up to 975lbs of pressure per square inch with our teeth!  
There also may be a high spot on either your new crown/filling that only presents itself when your jaw sits a certain way.  I would follow up with your dentist to make sure your bite is okay in all jaw positions and I would see if a nightguard would help not only protect those teeth, but the rest of them as well.
