I had a mole excision on 4/12/17. The mole was removed from right side of nose.MY plastic surgeon did a vertical excision. On day 3 it appeared the wound was more open that closed but he assured me there were stitches placed under and on top of the skin so not to worry. The wound from the second day had a goopy yellow/ gray color and still does to this day. I keep moist with Vaseline , 3 X a day to prevent a scab. what should I be doing?

Hello there-- it looks OK-- for superficial skin shaves-- it can take a few days to re-eptheliaze... but if it was deeper than the skin level, it will have to heal in from the sides-- in your photo it looks like it might have been a little deeper shave... so check in with your doctor!
Thank you for your inquiry and for your photo. What you have described is normal. I would advise you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon and have it properly excised. This is a simple procedure with little downtime. Best of Luck
Red scars can be improved with a combination of lasers (ProYellow, Excel V, VBeam), Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer
