Mole Excision On Nose now has an indented hole little bumps around the hole, what should I do? (Photos)

Question

I had a mole excision on 4/12/17. The mole was removed from right side of nose.MY plastic surgeon did a vertical excision. On day 3 it appeared the wound was more open that closed but he assured me there were stitches placed under and on top of the skin so not to worry. The wound from the second day had a goopy yellow/ gray color and still does to this day. I keep moist with Vaseline , 3 X a day to prevent a scab. what should I be doing?

Once the wound opened up, you had the right idea in terms of keeping it moist, however the stuff that has built up on the surface needs to be cleaned off so that it can continue to heal. Usually the yellow or grey color you describe is a combination of fluid the wound is making, plus the Vaseline that dried on the surface. Usually patients just add more on top without cleaning off the old layer, and it can sort of build up. I prefer my patients come see me and I clean it off for them, and then for a small wound like this I would advise applying Bacitracin ointment to the surface twice a day, or as needed to stay moist, but also wiping the old stuff off with a damp gauze before applying more. This is easier to do before it has completely dried. Aesthetically speaking, the wound appears pretty small and in a good area to be a "hidden" scar once it heals. If it healed with a noticeable scar, the area can also be lasered to smooth it out, though you may not need it. Also, if the mole was sent for pathology, don't forget to ask for your results.

It looks like you have a shave removal of the mole with a blade. After such as procedure, a small amount of indentation is going to occur for many months until your skin begins to fill up the wound with new cells. You will always have a tiny scar after such a mole removal but it is easily covered by makeup. Your doctor should evaluate you to make sure the wound is not infected. If there is a slight infection he can give you a cream to put on it twice per day.

Hello MMarie09,.Early on you are focusing mainly on the healing process and not the result.  If you feel your wound opened up or you are concerned about the appearance you really should be seen by your surgeon.  Depending on how much vaseline you have on the area could be creating the goopy appearance you mentioned.  Since you were concerned enough to post your question here I would recommend you follow up with your plastic surgeon to get your wound evaluated.I hope this helps and good luck.
