Has Anyone Ever Heard of Burning the Nerve and Muscle Between They Eyebrows?

I had a virtual consultation with a facial surgeon in another state. When i told the doctor that I am tired of botox for deep lines in forehead and vertical lines between my brows and wanted a brow lift , the doctor said he could perform a procedure by making tiny incisions in the forehead and burning the nerves and muscles between my eyebrows. Sounded hokey to me. Can anyone give an opinion on this procedure?

can be done with radiofrequency machines. The cost of such a procedure was more and the nerves can regenerate and restore the frown that you tried to get rid of. It is not hokey but its not permanent either.

The concept of nerve and muscle ablation for glabellar furrowing is not hokey but how to do it successfully is another story. It is most commonly done as part of an open or endoscopic browlift where as much muscle as possible is removed from around the supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves. These nerves are not ablated or burned as they have no role in muscle movement and would cause permanent numbness to the forehead. Other less invasive approaches using different energies from devices have been promoted but their long-term effectiveness has not yet been shown to have overwhelming results.

At one time there was a discussion about isolating the branch of the nerve that activates the corragator muscle and then destroying the nerve. This theoretically could correct the problem but I am not aware of anyone performing this procedure in practice.

The corrugator muscle is located between the eyebrows and is the primary muscle responsible for creating the vertical creases between the eyebrows. Botox has an excellent effect by paralyzing this muscle and smooths out the forehead wrinkles. When patients are tired of Botox, the next step would be a brow lift with special attention to surgically softening and dividing this muscle with a conservative amount of removal of the muscle to weaken it symmetrically. In addition to muscle weakening, a fascia graft can be inserted between the muscle and the dermis to fill out any dermal atrophy that present creating wrinkles. There is no need to burn any nerves or muscle between the eyebrows with the technique as described above.

The Corrugator Muscles cause lines in the Glabella. During Browlifts, these muscles can be severed allowing the lines to relax. The muscles can be cut through a limited incision within the upper eyelid as well. No need to cut the nerves, in the Glabvella, as these are sensory and "not" motor nerves...they would make your forehead numb, not reduce the lines and wrinkles. The motor nerves to the Corrugators are in the temple and by the inner canthus of the eye.

There are a couple of radio frequency machines on the market that accomplish this with variable success.  Burning the nerves does not alway work either.  The nerves can also regenerate.

The surgeon was probably describing an endoscopic procedure which sometimes gives long term results. Often the muscles reattach or grow back together. If large segments of muscle are removed, the result may more likely be permanent but deformities might occur.
