Is it possible to have discoloration from old areola after breast lift? (Photo)

Question

I had a full breast lift and augmentation a year and a half ago. The scars are now pretty light, however the skin all the way down the length of the vertical scar is a darker color than the rest of my skin. Is it possible my surgeon did not remove enough of my original areola skin and that is causing the discoloration? I noticed a couple hairs that are similar to the ones around areola there too. If so would it be reasonable to expect my surgeon to fix it without it costing me a new surgery fee?

Hi.
Thank you for your question and your pictures. It would be helpful to see pictures of your breasts from before your surgery to see how big your areolas were. Sometimes if the areola is too big it is almost impossible to take away the excess skin of the areola using a lollipop or t-inverted incision technique and sometimes it stays within the vertical scar. That could be one possible explanation and the other possible option is that your scar has simply too much pigments.

It is possible to migration from the darker skin after surgery.  This is easily revised in an office setting.  Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
