I had my temporary crowns put in today. Nine front teeth. Why are my temporary crowns so big and bulky? (photo)

A trained and experienced cosmetic dentist will be able to reshape the temporaries to your satisfaction and then take an impression of the desired shape to send to the lab for duplication (ideally a digital scan, like iTero, is done and emailed to the lab so they can duplicate without risk of temps coming off during an impression).  If the teeth did not have enough reduction in tooth structure, a good lab will be able to create prep guides (reduction copings) to help adjust the teeth prior to final cementation.But this IS a bit of "cart before the horse."  A better method would have been to plan how you would like to look, have the lab create a diagnostic waxup of the plan, and the temporary (prototype) would look like the final case.  If these steps were skipped, the final result is a bit of a prayer.

Thank you for posting your question.  I am sorry that you are upset with your Temporary crowns.  It is important to have a conversation with your dentist about your expectations prior to getting any cosmetic treatment done.  Now that you have the temporaries you should express your concerns so that they can be modified prior to the permanents.
