Smell from donor site of gum graft?

I had a gum graft 3 days ago. Doctor put a piece of collagen on the donor site on my palate, and I have been wearing a plastic retainer, made by the doctor's office, to protect it. The site appears to be healing well and pain is minimal- but it smells horrible, kind of a rotten meat odor, and has a foul taste. Is this normal?

There are different causes of gum recession clenching/ Grinding orthodontic treatment aggressive brushing smokinggenetically thin tissue type from the picture.  You do show some  wear and flattened teeth. So you might be a clencher/ Grinder a night guard...

Bad smell/ bad taste from the gingival graft site is not notmal you should have the site evaluated to rule out infection. You will need antibiotic to clear this infection meanwhile,you should continue rinsing with chlorhexidine mouth wash yo keep area clean

From what I can tell by your photo, you are showing very minimalgum recession.  I would discuss with your orthodontist about howthey can move the roots of your teeth a little closer together to try andbring the papilla up and close out the dark triangles.  This may requirea little...
