Ultherapy provider - Doctor, laser technician or aesthetician?

Hello! I got Ultherapy on my chin in October 2023 and I really liked the results. I’ve had consultations with several places near me for another treatment , including plastic surgery offices and aesthetic clinics overseen by a doctor, and a lot of them have aestheticians administer the treatment. I was trying to find a doctor or surgeon who administers it, but is it okay to go with a laser technician or aesthetician who has a lot of experience with the device? Thank you!

This is a great question, because Ultherapy isn’t like a simple facial — it’s a medical treatment that delivers ultrasound energy deep below the skin. Who performs it can vary depending on state regulations. In some offices, aestheticians or laser technicians may do the procedure if they’ve had thorough device training, and that can be perfectly fine — as long as there is strong medical oversight. The most important factor is that a qualified physician (such as a board-certified dermatologist) is involved in your care and available if any issues arise. That layer of medical accountability is what makes a medically supervised practice the safest choice compared to a spa or non-medical setting.

A Licensed Medical Esthetician is more than capable of performing this treatment successfully. However, it is important to make sure that your provider has ample experience and knowledge of the device and the treatment. At our facility, our licensed medical esthetician has over 10 years of experience with this device and is the only provider who performs the treatment.
