Waiting time depends on many factors.  If you are going through insurance, they may require a 6-12 month period of supervised diet and exercise.  If you meet all the requirements, it may take a few weeks to a month to get authorization from the insurance company.  And then some surgeons make you go through various (often unnecessary) tests such as sleep study, endoscopy, cardiac evaluation and psychological evaluation.If you are paying out of pocket, there is no waiting period.  Call your surgeon and ask.
