Accutane and Moisturizing Product?

Question

Before accutane, I have oily skin. When I'm on accutane, my skin is too dry. My doctor gave me moisturizing product for lip (Ingredients: PEG - 75 lanolin, Glycerin, Cetostearyl alcol, Acid stearic, nipagin, nipasol). Can i use this product for my skin face?

Dry skin and skin flaking are common while on Accutane. In our office, we recommend the Elevase Moisture Booster as a light moisturizer while on Accutane. Elevase contains opti-ceramides. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles

Usually lip products are not good to use on the face and are not interchangeable for locations. If you have very dry skin while taking Accutane the key is a good moisturizer, and most importantly, getting it into your skin. Many people consistently apply products to dry skin. The problem is that the skin's barrier isn't broken if it's not moist before you apply products, which means they sit on the surface and don't actually moisturize the skin's layers. Therefore, apply a bit of cool water before applying moisturizers. And use moisturizers that come in either tubes or jars - these are thicker than ones that come in pump bottles.
