Can I get laser skin tightening if I am prone to hypertrophic scarring?

Any type of topical ablative laser (a laser that removed a layer of skin) can produce problems in patients with higher Fitzpatrick skin types (graded 1-6, typically those who are hispanic or darker are considered Fitzpatrick 4 and higher). These problems can range from hypertrophic scarring to hypo or hyperpigmentation (skin being lighter or darker than the surrounding area). I would discuss with your provider trying a "test area" first prior to providing treatment to the whole face or other area that you are treating.
