Does Renuvion work in liposuction revision?

I had a liposuction of the abdomen done six years ago. Because I have loose skin, fat, and fibrosis left in the treated areas, I am considering a secondary liposuction. My surgeon suggested to use VASER and Renuvion. Would Renuvion still have a significant effect years after my first liposuction considering fibrosis/scarring?

Thank you for your question. Renuvian is a radio frequency energy instrument that can cause some shrinkage of skin. However, it is limited in its scope and does not replace direct skin excision such as a full abdominoplasty. It can offer approximately 20% shrinkage of skin as compared to normal liposuction alone. Although there have been claims of combining Vasor with Renuvian for maximum skin tightening, I would suggest that unless you are completely against abdominoplasty procedures and are willing to accept any improvement to avoid a long scar, you may be disappointed. I have had the Renuvion technology in my office for almost 10 years and have been very happy with the contraction of skin. I can obtain in selected patients. However, it does not replace direct excision of skin in terms of the ultimate result. There are some patients who can have a dramatic result with liposuction and renuvion. However, it is a small percentage, especially if the patients have had multiple children. I hope this is helpful.
