Thank you for your question. This depends on what your benefits are and what requirements you need to meet to have this covered. Contact your insurance company for this information. Schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. Best wishes!
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammaplasty, is a coverable medical procedure provided that the purpose of the procedure is medical, functional, or that the patient is symptomatic from the breast weight. If the surgery is done for cosmetic purposes, the reduction is not covered by insurance.
Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, I do not know if this specific insurance company will cover breast reduction surgery. The best way to obtain insurance coverage for breast reduction surgery involves some “hoops” to jump through. The more documentation you have (for example, from your primary care doctor, physical therapist, chiropractor etc.) the better when it comes to obtaining insurance “authorization” for the procedure. This documentation and letter/pictures from your plastic surgeon will help you obtain authorization. Make sure you're saying a well-trained/experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. Prepare to be persistent. Best wishes.
Each insurance company has different criteria for pre-approval of a breast reduction surgery and you should contact your carrier and speak with a doctor on the plan.
You should always check with your specific insurance company for requirements for coverage of breast reductions. They will give you the specifics for what criteria they use to make their decision. It is a good idea to follow their guidelines. They may want documentation from your familuy doctor or physical therapy.
Hi.This is the most common breast reduction question. I wrote an article about it for RealSef. You can read it at the bottom of my profile.
The KY Medical Card will cover breast reduction if they consider it "medically indicated". The problem will be finding a surgeon who will accept the card since it pays so very little for a relatively long operation. You might check with the UK or UL Plastic Surgeons (I don't think your medical card will work with UC). Good Luck!
