I have a large labial frenum but I want to close my gap with dental bonding, is frenectomy necessary to close it because I don’t want surgery.
Answer: Not absolute A frenectomy is always beneficial to prevent a gap from forming again. Were you aware it can also be done alternatively with a laser rather than a surgical incision? The procedure is performed quickly without anesthesia, minimal to no bleeding and stitches and minimal post-op discomfort, faster healing and recovery. If you are still on the fence, I would suggest having a fixed lingual retainer (bonded wire) behind your upper front teeth to help prevent any tooth movement. On a side note, I recommend a wax-up and "trial smile" before you do the composite bonding to get a glimpse of the final result. You may need restorations on the adjacent teeth to compensate for proper space distribution and dimensions of the teeth. Otherwise you may end up with very wide front teeth. Hope this helps, good luck!

Answer: Frenectomy I would suggest a frenectomy first. Sometimes, once the bonding is done, the gap can open again with the frenectomy.
