Tummy Tuck

Missy Haworth

Tummy Tuck is a Cute Name for a Skilled Structural Repair.

Do not be fooled by the cutesy name.. a "Tummy Tuck" from Dr. Maggi is a serious reparative surgery of my core. At age 51, abdominal laxity was causing problems in my ability to brace my torso for work with patients all day and exercise in the evenings. As a personal trainer and athlete, I had achieved the maximal amount of abdominal tightness that was possible after carrying two children in an extremely anterior presentation. I worked around the extra skin as best as I could for 20 years, but rashes and ill fitting clothes were putting me on the sidelines. I decided to find out if an abdominoplasty could actually address the structural problem. If I chose the wrong procedure, or the wrong practitioner, I could be out of a lot of money, with a soft belly covered by pretty skin. Dr. Maggi listened to my goals and assessed my situation. He recommended the primary focus be on "plication of the rectus abdominus" with skin and fat removal concurrent with the decreased surface area. This would not be "skin deep". Sounds logical, but it isn't simple, it takes a lot of experience to align and secure an individual's tissues in 3 dimensions to achieve both strength and mobility. Understand that internal and external lines of sutures total 5 feet! Any inch of which could become infected, endurated, or deformed. That is why Dr. Maggi and the staff Austin Plastic Surgery Center spent several appointments with me to train me and my caregiver on the procedures to avoid those bad outcomes. His post-surgical instructions are logical, and manageable, but essential. He has the integrity to delay surgery until all those conditions can be assured for his patient. Most importantly, Dr. Maggi offers the integrity of managing his own private operating suite. The nurses and anesthetist are long-time team members who work together to provide consistency that optimizes safety. This is major surgery, and they respect that, and teach you to respect that, too-for your own good. So, I chose Dr. Maggi, and his recommended procedure. I set a date, gathered all my items. Scheduled up my caregivers, took time off of work and took my blood tests. Would I look like the hundreds of "success" photos in his books or have lumpy sutures covered with tight "bad facelift" skin? At Day 10 post-surgery, I already feel I have the answer. My abdominal muscles feel strong, supple and responsive, My skin sutures are flat and 75% closed. Pain has been very manageable, my vitals have remained stable, and there have been no complications at all. Following the post-surgical protocols got easier each day. Dressing changes are easy for me to myself, but I'm so glad I had help the first few days. The nurses taught me and my caregiver as many times as we needed with patience and humor. They reviewed my post-op care methodically and answered my texts in minutes. Their support reinforced the importance of the recovery instructions to achieve the best results. 10 days post-op, I feel very confident that this major surgery will result in the strength and flexibility I need to continue working and exercising. And, I am starting to get excited about all the things i might be able to do if my pants fit better. My sound like a small thing, but it's huge for me! So far, I am fully satisfied with all aspects of this experience.

20 Years Old- Saline Under the Muscle Implants. Austin, TX

I have always been a very small chested girl. I was about a 32/34 A/B before my procedure, and chose to have 360 filled to 397 saline implants put in sub muscular. I had checked out a few other surgeons before deciding on Dr. Maggi, but there was no comparison in there work. Dr. Maggi had no competition when it came to how great his work was. At my consultation I felt so comfortable and so welcomed by the lovely staff. I received so much information and at my pre op appointment i knew I was making the best decision by choosing Dr. Maggi. The day of surgery, I was very calm and relaxed, and they told me everything and anything they were going to do before they did it, and they made me feel so good about making this decision to enhance my body. I'm currently on day 1 post op, and I can honestly say it is not as bad as I thought it would be. Yes they're hard to the touch, and my muscle is tight and stretched, but that is expected. I'm only taking one pain med every 5 hours. I would recommend this office to anyone. My results are already exactly what I wanted, I cannot wait till the settle in and drop into place. I showered today, and have been doing arm circles as instructed. It really helps keep the muscle loose. My incisions are very small, I will post a picture along with this. Wouldn't trust anyone else but Austin plastic surgery center! Updated on 13 Feb 2016: Feeling better today. Definitely still tense and sore up top, but doing the arm circles really helps. Not taking pain meds anymore. Best tip is eating pineapple and keeping the muscle loose!

30 Years Old, 1 Kid, 421cc Breast Augmentation - Austin, TX

I started out a 36B (barely) before my procedure, and with the help of this wonderful and professional staff and surgeon, have resulted in a 36D. From my very first consultation, I knew this was the plastic surgeon I wanted to go with. The whole staff was very warm, knowledgeable and gentle in guiding me through this process easily, and they have continued to be. Dr. Maggi also paid special attention to my past medical history concerns, whereas other surgeons I met did not address my history. The surgery was quick and easy, and within a few days, I was resuming normal activity. Pain was minimal but well managed. My frequent follow ups (included in the total price quoted) put all my worries to ease and answered all my questions. At almost two months post-op now, I have zero pain or tenderness, wearing underwire bras pain-free, and my breasts are beginning to drop beautifully and symmetrically. My small scars are also healing nicely. Wonderful staff, surgeon and fabulous results! I will recommend this office to any of my friends seeking future consults for cosmetic surgeries. Thank you, Austin Plastic Surgery Center!

Couldn't Be Happier! - Austin, TX

I am beyond ecstatic with my results. I went with 370cc silicone under muscle implants which were and are prefect for my body height and weight (5'3, 128lbs). I wanted a full c and that's exactly what they are. This has been something I have wanted to do for about 5 years. I used to have c/d sized boobs years ago when I was on very high dosage birth control and after I got off I lost about 40lbs and had saggy skin boobs in my late 20s. For my 30th birthday I decided now was the time to do something for myself and I could not be any happier. I feel so confident with my body. The whole process was very easy to follow and I knew exactly what to expect before, during and after surgery - thanks to the amazing team at Dr. Maggi's Austin Plastic Surgery Center. No complications at all and I am beyond satisfied. I go for my 3 month visit this week and can't wait to show the team how I am heeling!

30 Year Old Mommy of One, Want my Girls to Sit Pretty Again. Austin, TX

I am active duty military, and I have a 5 year old son. After giving birth I lost the shape/size in my breast and had been unhappy. I was still deployed when I first made contact with Dr. Maggi office and I must say his staff is great! The answered emails so quick and all my questions. Once I returned I had my consultation in December. Where I met Kathy & Dr. Maggi. They both were so helpful and so knowledgeable about breast augmentation. I felt so comfortable my appointment wasn't rushed & I wasn't pressured into making a decision right there on the spot. I got my surgery done in Feb & I am still in the healing process but I am totally satisfied with Dr. Maggi work. Updated on 28 Feb 2015: Pre surgery I was a 34A. I chose silicon gel implants for a more natural look, I went with 397cc which will put me at a full C cup. I didn't wanna go any bigger because of my body type I'm 5'7 1/2 and about 136 with a fit/athletic body. My biggest fear with getting the implants was getting put under anesthesia this was my first time going under. But Dr. Maggi and his staff made sure I would be fine. Day of surgery I had to be at the Austin plastic surgery center at 6:45am. The procedure itself was about 45 mins long, I had my incision made underneath the breast, and underneath the muscle. I do plan on having another child in the future and would like to breastfeed, so Dr. Maggi explained to me that placement and incison would be best for me. So after waking up from surgery first thing I wanted to do was touch my breast lol. I wasn't in any pain and I'm still not in pain, its more of soreness it feels like I did 200 push ups so not bad at all for me. I was expecting it to be worse honestly. For medicines in was prescribed Tylenol 4's with codine to be taken 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours I've only taken 2 so far and this is day 2 of recovering. I was also giving an antibiotic to take for 7 days & nausea meds just in case but I haven't had to take those I haven't had a reaction to the anesthesia. I go in on Monday for my first post op appointment and I'll be sure to add a update to this review. Updated on 28 Feb 2015: Just random pics of my breast month before my surgery Updated on 2 Mar 2015: Ok, so I had my surgery on Friday Feb 27th. I am going in today for my first post op appt with my surgeon. This weekend had it's ups & downs. I wouldnt say I'm in pain it's more of soreness. The sleeping sitting up part sucks!!! Because now my back hurts a little. I also got sick from the anesthesia I felt so nausea and couldn't keep anything down. Once I took the meds they gave me I was good to go. Updated on 6 Mar 2015: Hello Ladies!!! Well today marks my 1 week post opp. I've went back to work, and I'm feeling good. Finished all of my antibiotics and I haven't taken pain meds since last week I don't need them anymore. I still have tightness does anyone know how long this last? My left side has been a bit better than the right side, I have no soreness on the left and it's not as tight. My right side is still sore on the side and it is very tight, I've been doing the arm excerises my nurse and surgeon told me about but it doesn't seem to be helping. Overall I'm happy I have an appt on Thursday. I'll be posting week one photos later today :) Updated on 7 Mar 2015: Here are a few pics from today day 8 post op. They are still sitting high, and I have swelling, my right side is more tender and sore than the left side. But I am happy with the results so far.

27 YO Mother of 3, Needed a Breast Lift/aug - Austin, TX

I could not possibly be more happy with my entire experience! From the initial consultation, I met with Dr. Maggi himself, before I had even made a decision to commit to Austin Plastic Surgery Center. He never made me feel rushed or like I was just another number in his busy schedule. He's very thorough and was very attentive as to what my desired results were. His staff was very friendly from beginning to end, and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work as well. After my initial consultation was complete, I walked out of there with a roadmap of measurements on my chest. I had made my decision to go with Dr. Maggi before I even left the office, so I awaited the pricing email from Tricia and booked the earliest available surgery date. My procedure was performed on a Friday. I was in, out and recovering at home before I knew it. The next day (Saturday), Dr. Maggi and Tricia came into the office for my first post op check. Everything looked good and I went home to continue my recovery. The second night after my procedure was the last dose of pain medicine I had to take. By the third day, I was down to taking regular Tylenol as needed. I had some tightness in my chest and upper back, and continued to sleep upright (with lots and lots of pillows) until 2 wks 3 days 09/15/14 when my stitches were removed from my lift incisions and I was given a chest strap to help settle the implants into the muscle. My latest appointment was on 10/01/14. Dr. Maggi did my measurements and he was spot on with his placement of the implants. I mean, he hit every desired measurement, from collar bone to each nipple, nipple to nipple, the take off of my breasts, and my upper pole fullness. After just 2 wks and 2 days of wearing the chest strap, I was able to go without it. I am now 5 wks 6 days post op and I absolutely LOVE my new breasts! I will be in a sports bra until my next post op appointment on 10/29/14. I continue to massage, take my multi vitamin twice a day and my vitamin C daily. My incisions are healing very nicely and like I said before, I could not be happier with my results and overall experience. From pre op care, my procedure and post op care, the staff at Austin Plastic Surgery Center far exceeded every expectation I had. I am so glad I went with Dr. Maggi and didn't just jump on the first office I consulted with. I know I made the right choice, and I hope my review helps you make your right choice as well!
