Skinbetter Science is a brand of skin-care products available exclusively at select doctors’ offices and medical spas. Developed by a team with experience in clinical research and development that included the injectables Restylane and Dysport, the physician-dispensed products promise high-level performance with formulas that have powerful but non-irritating active ingredients. The line includes products that address various skin concerns, such as wrinkles and fine lines, sun damage, large pores, under-eye bags and dark circles, dryness, and dullness.

Skinbetter Science developed a patented no-needle technology, called InterFuse, that allows larger molecules to break through the skin’s defense barrier in order to penetrate deeper and more effectively into dermal layers than other topical creams can.

Pros

  • Many of the products are designed to amplify the results of in-office treatments, so you can use them at the same time or during recovery from skin rejuvenation procedures.
  • The ingredients are generally more gentle, making them suitable for a wide range of skin types and skin tones. The AlphaRet line is a suitable anti-aging alternative for people who can’t tolerate tretinoin, and the Even Tone Correcting Serum uses a “patented B.R.Y. complex” that avoids hydroquinone to treat hyperpigmentation.
  • RealSelf members who ranked it as “Worth It” in their Skinbetter Science reviews say it increases moisture levels and smooths uneven texture.
  • The line is not tested on animals.

Cons

  • The products are relatively expensive, ranging in price from $38 to $220 each.
  • Because the line is available only through authorized physicians, accessibility or replenishment might be an issue—especially if doctors in your area don’t carry it.
  • Common complaints from RealSelf members include ineffectiveness, olfactory issues, and an uptick in breakouts.
  • If you are pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor before using Skinbetter Science products.

Skinbetter Science products fit into four categories.

Rejuvenate

  • AlphaRet Overnight Cream gently resurfaces skin with alpha hydroxy acids and a retinoid. It’s also available as Intensive AlphaRet Overnight Cream, with enhanced skin rejuvenation benefits.
  • Even Tone Correcting Serum helps face dark spots and discoloration.
  • Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment hydrates dry skin and improves the appearance of lines.
  • Interfuse Treatment Cream Face & Neck firms up sagging skin.
  • Interfuse Intensive Treatment Lines targets expression lines with hyaluronic acid.

Rejuvenate – Enhance

  • AlphaRet Exfoliating Pads exfoliate away dead skin and unclog pores with a blend of lactic, salicylic, and glycolic acid.
  • Interfuse Treatment Cream Eye, with brightening vitamin C, improves the appearance of crow’s feet.
  • Instant Effect Gel is an eye cream that targets puffiness.

Protect

  • Alto Defense Serum protects the skin from environmental damage with 19 antioxidants
  • Solo Hydrating Defense Men is designed to protect male skin from UV radiation, blue light, and pollution.
  • Sunbetter Sheer SPF 56 Sunscreen Stick provides 100% mineral sun protection in a convenient stick applicator.
  • Sunbetter Tone Smart SPF 68 Sunscreen Compact adapts to your skin tone and provides a hint of color as it protects from UVA/UVB, blue light, and infrared radiation.

Refresh

  • Oxygen Infusion Wash cleanses skin with slow-release alpha hydroxy acid and oxygen.
  • Detoxifying Scrub Mask promotes a smooth and even skin tone.
  • Hydration Boosting Cream is a dual-action moisturizer that delivers both immediate and long-lasting hydration.

Results can vary widely. In order to make sure your skin concerns are being addressed and the ingredients are right for you, it’s recommended that you consult with your doctor before investing in a new skin-care regimen.

RealSelf Tip: If you have sensitive or allergy-prone skin, do a patch test by putting a dab of the product on the inside of your arm. After 24 hours, if no reaction has occurred, you can safely use the product.
