7 Los Angeles Plastic Surgeons Share the Most Popular Cosmetic Procedures of the Moment

Plastic surgeons and dermatologists in L.A. report an influx of patients. These are the most popular requests of the past month, according to five doctors.

You can’t have Los Angeles without plastic surgery—the two are inextricably linked. A hotbed for both celebs and the überwealthy, the city is also home to some of the best and most sought-after plastic surgeons in the country, all of whom are very used to catering to their discerning and demanding clientele. So what exactly are the 1% requesting these days? We tapped seven L.A.-based plastic surgeons to learn more about what types of cosmetic procedures their A-list patients are asking for these days. (Hint: subtlety is trending.)

Hip augmentation

“In my office, hip implants are definitely the fastest-growing requested surgical procedure, likely still influenced by the Kylie Jenner hourglass transformation. Hip implant patients come inr all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and races, but the majority are women who feel like they are lacking feminine hip curves and desire that Coke-bottle-shaped figure. It’s also growing in popularity due, largely, to the male-to-female transgender population undergoing gender confirmation surgery, whose hips remain straight or boxy no matter how much estrogen they take.” —Dr. Ryan A. Stanton, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation has always been what my patients come to me for, but the most recent trend is a decrease in the size of the implants they are requesting. More and more patients want smaller breast implants. I believe that the days of obtaining an hourglass silhouette are slowly fading away, and patients want a more slimmed-down figure, similar to what we saw in the fashion world in the ’90s. Gone are the days when big breasts were fashionable. I’d say the average implant I’m using now is a 200cc to 300cc with a moderate, natural profile as opposed to a 400cc to 500cc with a high, perky profile.” —Dr. Urmen Desai, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California

Brazilian butt lift

BBLs have been popular for over a decade, but now, the patients I’m seeing are looking for a better shape more so than added volume. They have very reasonable expectations, and I’m not doing a lot of oversized buttocks.” —Dr. William Bruno, a board-certified plastic surgeon in West Hollywood, California

Neck lift

“I’m performing a lot more neck lifts these days—specifically, deep plane neck lifts. More and more people are aware of and realizing what ‘tech neck’ is and don’t like how their necks look on Zoom. Or some of them have had submental liposuction and are still not happy with excess fullness that they’re seeing. With a deep plane neck lift, we’re removing extra fat in the deeper layers and then tightening the platysma muscles. Even younger patients, those in their 30s, are requesting this surgery.” —Dr. Paul Nassif, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California

Breast fat grafting

“One of the most common consults I’m doing these days is for breast fat grafting. People are looking for things that give them a subtle change, not the cartoonish breasts we have been seeing for the last decade. They’re moving away from the round, augmented look of an implant and want a more natural breast shape and feel. Our patients are also no fuss and want to do things with minimal downtime and maintenance. Women want to feel proportional and find clothing off the rack easily. They also don’t like the idea of multiple future surgeries, which are common if you have implants.” —Dr. Kelly Killeen, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California

Chin implants

“A chin implant is one of the most powerful single changes you can make. The chin is critical to a strong jawline, both in men and in women. Implants come in many shapes and sizes and can even be custom made. Unlike breast implants, they’re permanent, though also reversible. I often do chin implants in combination with rhinoplasty because the nose and chin are very connected and sometimes both must be corrected for the most  beautiful profile.” —Dr. Rady Rahban, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California

Scarless breast augmentation

“Breast augmentation has always remained one of the most popular procedures.  However, many patients are now seeking a scarless version. While this a bit of a misnomer, the incisions that are used to insert the implants are removed from the breast completely and hidden in the folds of the underarms.  In the age of social media, when everything is so carefully scrutinized, patients are seeking the latest techniques to minimize scarring. Although utilizing underarm incisions for breast augmentation is not a totally new technique, the use of a high-definition endoscope has modernized this technique, to minimize bleeding and decrease the rate of capsular contracture, minimize pain, to shorten the recovery time, and create beautiful breasts without the obvious scars.” —Dr. Edwin Kwon, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California
