Dr. Steitz is absolutely AMAZING. He showed true concern and care...and tried to calm my many fears. At first I thought he was too young, but this proved to be beneficial. He was up to date on all the latest procedures and technologies. He wasn't just there to collect a paycheck...he thoroughly enjoys his job. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose no one else! Many many thanks Dr. Steitz. Lezah
Dr. Steitz is nothing but amazing! I had one surgery years ago to help me breathe but it didn’t work & I all about gave up until I saw him! He took care of my breathing issues & his team is wonderful!!! Highly recommend him! As an incentive for posting a review, this reviewer received an entry into RealSelf’s monthly $500 gift card giveaway.
Dr. Steitz is an amazing doctor! He performed an otoplasty, blepharoplasty and fat transfer on me. This was one of the most positive experiences I’ve had with a doctor. From the initial consultation to follow up visits, I could not have asked for better care or attention! I highly recommend Dr. Steitz! The only regret I have is not going to see him sooner! Don’t hesitate to make an appointment!
I could not sing the praises of this man enough! Over the past 20 years, I’d thought about changing some features that have caused me insecurities my entire life. But, I’d never found the right doctor or the right time. Then I consulted with Dr. Steitz. I initially found Dr. Steitz in a google search when I was having some issues breathing. Within the first visit I was finally had an answer, nasal valve prolapse, and was given some nonsurgical and surgical treatment options. I wanted permanent results, so I chose surgical. And, the more I talked to him, the more I just liked him as a person. I started to consider adding some cosmetic treatments and asked my friend, a local nurse, about his reputation in the hospitals. As soon as I said his name she started raving about him. Apparently everyone loves working with him and beyond that, just as I thought, he’s also a wonderful person. I emailed the office and started asking about different procedures and I met with him several times, then booked my surgeries. That’s right... multiple procedures. If I was going under anesthesia to fix my breathing issue I also wanted to knock out the cosmetic concerns. During consults, Dr. Steitz was honest about expectations and listened to my desired outcome. He also provided guidance on what he thought would look good or not. For example, did I need a stronger nose? With my bone structure, could I really have a jawline? Will I ever have eyelids for eyeshadow? Ultimately we did a septorhinoplasty, fat transfer, lower face/necklift, and blepharoplasty. Surgery day was mostly uneventful. The outpatient facility providing outstanding in care. But, it’s the aftercare where Dr. Steitz really shines. He already set the expectation that I’d have swelling, and probably even more with multiple procedures. But, each time I’d ask in the coming months, he’d listen and assess. I’m just beyond 3 months post surgery and I’m starting to see the results. While I could immediately see the hump in my nose smoothed out, the swelling is going down in the rest of my face. Dr. Steitz made the changes look so natural that friends are shocked when they hear I had cosmetic work done. I simply look refreshed and younger. Which is saying a lot as a mom with a toddler living in caffeine and prayers.
Dr Jeffrey Steitz is AMAZING! I recently had 3 Basal Cell Carcinomas removed via Moh’s surgery; one on my forehead, one on my nose, and one above my lip. Dr Steitz was my reconstructive surgeon. From my initial consult, through my final post-op, he patiently answered every one of my questions. Initially I was mortified after he’d shown me some before and after pictures of what to expect. My case was a challenge due to placement and the fact that this wasn’t my first instance of Basal Cell Carcinoma. Dr Steitz met the challenge, FAR exceeding my expectations. I honestly thought things would look pretty intense for MONTHS! My Moh’s surgery was done by my dermatology surgeon on Feb 17, 2021. Dr Steitz performed a two part surgery which involved a “forehead flap”. The 1st was on Feb 18, 2021, the 2nd on March 11th. I had my final followup with Dr Steitz yesterday April, 7, 2021. Dr Steitz patiently answered my questions at the very end as he had from the beginning. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Steitz for all your reconstructive/plastic surgery needs.
Doctor Steitz is a great doctor. He handled my case through every step. When there were complications to my procedure he stopped and sent me to a specialist he knew personally to get the problem resolved. After it was resolved he performed septorhinoplasty on me and it went perfectly. He was quick to answer any questions and gave clear post op instructions.
Dr. Steitz performed my second revision rhinoplasty. I had my first one 20 years ago with another surgeon for my deviated septum and passageway issues. Unfortunately it didn’t hold up and I couldn’t breathe well again. That surgeon then decided to try ear cartilage a few years ago. I had also wanted my bulbous tip done, and was told that was as good as it gets. Dr. Steitz used a rib graft, and I now actually have a bridge to my nose, no bulbous tip, and, more importantly, I can breathe out of both nostrils! There are just no words to express how impressed I have been with him! I have worked in the medical field for two decades with hundreds of physicians. Dr. Steitz is the entire package. I first discovered him by researching many of the surgeons in the area, and chose to visit Dr. Steitz after reading that he trained with one of the most recognized thought leaders in the country, specifically in rhinoplasty. After consultations with him and a few other surgeons (including the guy with all of the billboards and tons of Realself posts), it was clear that Dr. Steitz was more knowledgeable and experienced when it came to the latest and best techniques, especially with complex issues like revision rhinoplasty. On top of his knowledge and skill, Dr. Steitz has one of the best bedside manners of any physician I’ve ever met! He didn’t talk down to me at all! No question was a dumb question, and he answered each one in detail. He shared more information about the options. He didn’t just provide his opinion, either. He shared information about the actual scientific medical data. I did not feel that he was trying to “up sell” me in the least, unlike a couple of other surgeons. Once he helped me decide on a course of action, Dr. Steitz took his time and set expectations so very well, both for the procedure and the recovery process. Also, it may seem trivial to some, but I loved that he took photos of my nose on the operating table before the surgery and after (before the swelling really sets in). Given how long it can take for the swelling to go down after rhinoplasty, it was so reassuring to see those photos. Also, as far as the elective portions of my procedure, his costs were very reasonable. Be wary that there can be large variances, even in the Midwest. Extra money does not necessarily equate to better skill. It usually equates to just more marketing. FYI: I have written my fair share of reviews, and this is only the second time I have been motivated to write a positive one (for anything). I was not compensated in any way for my review. It’s just my way of hopefully helping others with making such an important decision. Best of luck!
Dr. Steitz is such a knowledgeable and talented double board-certified physician! In addition to his superb surgical skills, what particularly stands out is his ability to listen and his willingness to spend as much time as necessary to answer questions and explain procedures. My nose was broken in the 1970's, resulting in several surgeries through the years. (The last one was in 2014.) But due to insufficient remaining cartilage, my nose was noticeably asymmetrical and I frequently felt as though my airflow was compromised when outdoors or exercising. Repairing the damage would require harvesting rib cartilage, which other doctors had previously indicated would be a very difficult, if not impossible, procedure since am in my late 60's. But Dr. Steitz assured me he could harvest the cartilage and rebuild my nose to give it the necessary support in a way that was aesthetically pleasing. Now, for the first time in 40+ years, I have straight and solid cartilage down the center of my nose and my breathing is so much better! Since my surgery was this past October (2020), I still have some healing to do. In follow-up visits with Dr. Steitz, he continues to amaze me with his patience and attention to detail. His office staff are always helpful and accommodating as well. All around, an excellent experience!
Dr. Streitz is kind, patient, and listens to your needs and concerns. He is very knowledgeable and very skilled, he is truly amazing at what he does. I am 10 days post op and I am absolutely in love with my new nose.
Highly recommend Dr. Steitz! He is kind, knowledgeable and an excellent surgeon. He explains everything, the good, the bad and the ugly and encourages you to voice your concerns in decision making regarding treatment options. Thank you for your patience Dr. So happy with my results.! Staff is great as well. You will not regret choosing Dr. Steitz.
Thanks for your question! Haivng a nonsurgical rhinoplasty before a surgical rhinoplasty can create problems during the surgical procedure, but those complications are rare. In a patient that has had filler to the nose before, the primary concern when undergoing a rhinoplasty is compromise of the skin envelope if the filler was placed too superficially (close to the skin). Sometimes additional soft tissue grafting is required if the skin was damaged or is too thin. If a hyaluronic acid filler was used for the nonsurgical rhinoplasty, I will always recommend that we reverse the filler prior to surgery and do this at least 2-3 months before the operation. If a hydroxyapatite filler was used then this sometimes requires surgical removal during the rhinoplasty which can increase complication rates and prolong recovery. I would definitely explore your options before committing to either route and make sure you see a facial plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty for either your injections or rhinoplasty. Good luck!
Rib cartilage warps to varying degrees primarily based on calcification of the rib which increases as you get older. In younger patients there are very few calcifications so the rib warps a lot. In contrast, older patients have more calcifications so it warps much less. Irradiated rib still has some warping tendencies as well but usually is pretty minimal. Rib cartilage can very safely be used for spreader grafts, you just have to harvest the rib early, carve it into the appropriate size grafts and watch for warping tendencies. The grafts can then either be splinted or placed so that the warping of each spreader graft is opposite and equal to the other side. Septal cartilage is wonderful but in revision surgeries and patients with severe deformities, sometimes there isn't enough for all the grafting that is necessary. Hopefully that answers your question, good luck!
Unfortunately this is something that can be seen after rhinoplasty especially in people with thick skin. Now assuming that you don't have an implant like goretex or silicone or something else in your nose, then it may be simply be related to the face that you've undergone a rhinoplasty. While not common, after surgery sometimes you can see daily or weekly fluctuations in swelling. Most of the time patients will complain that exercise, excess heat, alcohol (especially wine) and excess salt intake will all make the swelling worse. Try and keep a log of what makes your nose swell worse and try and minimize salt intake less than 200mg per meal and see if that helps. Sometimes repeat steroid injections will help keep the swelling at bay. Almost always this problem will resolve itself but it can be unpredictable at times. I know it's a frustrating problem but hopefully this helps shed some light on it for you.
To answer your question directly, technically the tip is not drooping. What you're seeing when you smile is an "over-projected caudal septum" where there is excess length in the septum. This is also what creates a slight crease in the upper lip when you smile. That combined with the activity of the depressor septi nasi muscle creates the illusion of a drooping tip when smiling. You can also see a little bit of hanging columella where the distance between the nostril margin (ala) and columella is slightly excessive. A lot of things can be done to alter that relationship, it mostly just depends on what you're looking for as well as what changes might want to be made on frontal view. Your best bet is to see a facial plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty for an in-person consultation so you can discuss what may be possible. Good luck!
Cartilage grafting in rhinoplasty is incredibly safe and works very well as long as the cartilage is used properly and placed in the right areas. It is incredibly rare, but possible, for cartilage to resorb or "go away". Typically this is only seen if there is an infection present. It's also debate-able on whether or not donor or cadaveric cartilage resorbs over time but many people use it safely with good long term results. As with any rhinoplasty, its all about technique and if the cartilage is not shaped or placed properly, the result can be compromised. Make sure you seek evaluation with a facial plastic surgeon comfortable with rhinoplasty for your best result. Good luck!
