I had an amazing experience with my breast surgery. From consultation to recovery, my surgeon and medical team were professional, supportive, and skilled. The procedure went smoothly, recovery was well-managed, and the results exceeded my expectations natural looking and confidence boosting. Highly recommend Dr Shortt at GraceMed Clinic Oakville for their expertise and care!
Dr. Shortt is fantastic! I had a breast reduction in November 2024, and even at just four months post-op, my scars already look amazing. The reviews are absolutely accurate; he is personable, thorough, and takes the time to answer all questions. He doesn’t overpromise but definitely delivers! I love my results and couldn’t be happier. My recovery was smooth and quick. I was up and moving after just a week and didn’t even need pain meds beyond Tylenol. Not having drains made the healing process even easier. I would 100% recommend Dr. Shortt to anyone considering this procedure. An incredible surgeon with an amazing team!
I had my Gynecomastia surgery with Dr Shortt and the whole experience was excellent. From the very comfortable and friendly consultations/meetings in his office, to the actual surgery and recovery, it was all very professionally done and with excellent results. I felt as though I was being cared for the whole time with prompt follow-ups and great care after surgery. Would highly recommend Dr. Shortt!
(Breast Reduction) Dr. Shortt was extremely professional, kind and an amazing surgeon! My results are very impressive. From the very first point of contact, Dr Shortt's staff are wonderful. All my questions and concerns addressed. Oakville Trafalgar Hospital was a great experience where my procedure was done. It was clean, well run and organized, on time, lovely staff. The surgery went well and recovery time was as expected. I am healthier and happier and the scarring is minimal, seems to fade by the day. Surgery was end of August, 2024. The care I received was exemplary. I would 100% recommend and will be for ever grateful to Dr. Shortt who truly cares about his patients.
I cannot express how grateful I am to Dr. Shortt! As a health care professional I was beyond impressed with not only his knowledge but also his incredible bedside manner. From my first appointment Dr. Shortt made me very relaxed and I felt I was given accurate information in order to make my decision to proceed with my breast augmentation that I had been wanting for a decade. His calm, professional, but humorous approach truly made me feel at ease. When I has second guesses about the size of implant I had chosen, I was welcomed back into the clinic to meet with Dr. Shortt and review my choices once again. At this appointment he gladly assisted me with reviewing my decision so I was comfortable. This was not rushed and I didn't feel like I was a burden for coming in again, quite the opposite. On my surgery day, everyone was relaxed but incredibly thorough with multiple checks which further reassured me before going under anesthesia. My recovery went very smoothly and I am so pleased with my result. I have a fuller bust line and feel much more confident. I feel we achieved the natural result I was looking for.
I have had some big babies, including twins in my early 40’s. I knew when I was pregnant with twins I would definitely not snap back. After I had stopped breastfeeding my twins, I started to consult with different plastic surgeons. I didn’t click with any of them, but when I consulted with Dr.Shortt I picked out my surgery date and paid the deposit that very day. He was warm, kind, very knowledgeable and honest. I came with a list of things I wanted to do and a barrage of questions (since he was not my first consult) and he was kind, patient and answered all of it without rushing. He also found an umbilical hernia I didn’t know I had at the consult. On the surgery date I had a abdominalplasty with muscle repair and umblical hernia repair, liposuction to the flanks and fat transfer to the breasts (no lift or implants), everything went smoothly and the recovery, I was expecting the worse, but none of it happened. Oddly I totally lucked out, the pain from a tummy tuck was much less then a twin C-section and the recovery was easier too since I didn’t have to care for premie infants 24-7. After surgery I could actually get up from bed and use the bathroom by myself by day 2, I was driving by day 5 post op. Dr.Shortt also addressed my scaring concerns seriously (as I’m asian and prone to hyper pigmentation and keliods) and I really appreciated that. I was in a binder for the first 4 weeks (I recommend wearing a tank top underneath the binder), then 2 weeks of shape wear and have been using silicone tape since week 2 and still continue to do so. Results? My chronic back pain (probably from lack of core muscles from a 4cm diastasis- which is my diagnoses , not any doctor), which I’ve had from my 1st kid and got so so much worse after twins was completely gone right after surgery and still gone. This was the biggest change in my life. It’s now 4 + months post op (I’m about the same weight as pre surgery) and I lost 6 inches around my belly button waist (compared to pre-op) , and my breasts are filled in from the fat (around 300cc to each breast). For breast fat transfer, there’s literally almost no scars and I’ve gained about 1/2 to 1 cup size. I went from a deflated C cup to a D. My body shape is now proportional and balanced. Oh and I chose Dr.Shortt for his expertise in fat transfer and belly buttons. My belly button looks fantastic (I wasn’t sure pre-op because I also had an umbilical hernia repair)! I’m proudly wearing crop tops and low rise jeans now. I feel pre-kids in energy now that I have my core muscles back, and I’ve been able to exercise and lift weights and lift my children without pain. Also, not to mention I feel and I think I look fantastic. This is all because of Dr.Shortt, I have him to thank for it. I can’t recommend him enough for actually changing my life. Now when women ask how I’ve had 3 kids and still look great, I tell them “major surgery, I am not going to pretend for one second that having twins did not break me”. I’m proud of having 3 kids, and I’m proud of doing what needs to be done to get my life back so I can enjoy raising my family. Thank you Dr.Shortt.
I found Dr. Shortt to be so incredibly kind, professional, honest, and informative. All the things I was looking for in a Dr. that would be changing my appearance. His staff is excellent, kind and caring as well, making sure you are informed and taken care of. I was looking for an overall natural appearance in my augmentation and that is exactly what was achieved. Dr. Shortt answered all my questions and his guidance was crucial in the results I received. I am very happy with my results and would recommend Dr. Shorty to anyone looking to have cosmetic surgery.
Great experience with Dr Shortt with my breast reduction and lift. Breastfed 2 kids - 1 for over 2 years so my boobs were quite sad and really aged me as a 37 year old. My recovery was great, I didn’t feel pain after a week or so. Breasts look great- almost unbelievable. Will add pics when I get them
I recently underwent breast reduction surgery with Dr.Shortt in February of 2024 and I can confidently say it was a life-changing experience. From the initial consultation to post-operative care, every step was handled with professionalism, expertise, and genuine care. During the consultation, he took the time to listen attentively to my concerns and thoroughly explain the procedure, potential risks, and expected outcomes. His compassionate approach immediately put me at ease, and I felt reassured knowing I was in capable hands. On the day of the surgery, the entire medical team displayed utmost professionalism and competence. All staff was extremely kind and helpful. I was extremely nervous but the amazing staff put my nerves as ease. Post-operatively, Dr.Shortt provided thorough instructions for recovery and was readily available to address any questions or concerns. His dedication to patient care extended beyond the operating room, and I felt supported throughout the healing process. The results of my breast reduction surgery exceeded my expectations. Not only do I feel more comfortable physically, but my confidence and self-esteem have soared. I am now two months post op and I feel amazing, I am back to all regular activities and my scars looks phenomenal. Dr.Shortt has truly transformed my life, and I am forever grateful for his expertise and compassion. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr.Shortt to anyone considering breast reduction surgery. His exceptional surgical skills, compassionate approach, and commitment to patient satisfaction make him a top choice for anyone seeking a positive surgical experience. Thank you, Dr.Shortt, for changing my life for the better.
My journey to Dr. Shortt began over a year ago when I started on my weight loss journey. When I had lost 90 pounds I started to do my research for the best surgeon to fix my saggy breasts and excess skin on my tummy. From my first interaction with his office, and his very helpful assistant Joanne, I felt comfortable and confident that I’d made the right choice in surgeons. At my consultation appointment, Dr. Shortt listened to my concerns and gave me options to get the best results for my body. He made me feel comfortable in his knowledge of the procedures and even made a few suggestions for options that I hadn’t considered, like taking some excess fat from my tummy and transferring it to my upper breast to make them fuller once he’d lifted them. I finally decided to have an “extended tummy tuck and a breast lift with fat transfer to the upper breasts”. On the day of surgery, the nurse’s Geraldine and Rachel were so kind and calmed my nerves while they got me ready for the operating room. The anesthesiologist, Dr.White was extremely nice. After the surgery, in recovery, I was taken care of by Nurse Kim who was so caring and comforting. My next week flew by with no concerns and manageable pain. I was worried about having my tummy tuck drain removed but Kristin, the post op nurse, was so gentle, I didn’t feel a thing. I hadn’t looked in the mirror all week because I wanted to see the results with Dr.Shortt when the bandages were removed. He handed me the mirror and to say I was overjoyed would be an understatement! I could not believe that my stomach and breasts could look so amazing! And my new belly button was a work of art! Dr . Shortt’s attention to detail after my surgery has been equally impressive. His use of silicone pieces and scar massage has helped to insure my scars heal as well as possible. It’s been 3 months since my surgery and I continue to be surprised every time I look in the mirror! My body never looked like this, not even when I was much younger! I can not thank Dr.Shortt and his staff enough for this wonderful experience. It far exceeded my expectations !
I think patient's make a bigger deal of drains than doctors do. I think the "drainless tummy tuck" has become a marketing term. I think all skilled surgeons could do a tummy tuck with or without drains. There are different considerations depending on whether you use it or not. Personally I have used drains and I have not used drains over the years and currently see value in a drain for most people. Essentially there are 3 possible options and a drain is the least inconvenient of the 3 in my opinion: 1. Place a drain for 5 or 6 days. Use a dressing that allows patients to shower. It is simple to empty the fluid. Drain can be removed essentially painlessly at first follow-up appointment. The benefit includes minimizing the risk of a fluid collection (seroma). After doing this as long as I have and performing countless tummy tucks this is my preferred treatment. 2. Do not use a drain but place a number of progressive tension sutures. The purpose is to further attach the skin and fat layer to the muscle layer. This minimizes the size of the pocket that can fill with swelling fluid. This is very effective at preventing a seroma. Unfortunately, it does tether the tissue a fair bit which can lead to unnatural looking contours. It can require a lot of massage therapy to get things moving. It also probably has a higher chance of needing a revision procedure to improve the contour. 3. Finally, you can not use a drain and not use the progressive tension sutures. Unfortunately there is a high risk of a seroma forming. Regular aspirations might be needed in the office for couple of weeks to resolve that. There is no perfect answer. Personally I think a drain for a few days is the preferred method. If I have a patient who strongly opposes a drain it is easy enough to do a tummy tuck without a drain. I think even more important questions than, "Does this surgeon use a drain or not?" would be, "Can they create a nice belly button?", "Are the scars discreet and hidden?", "If there is a problem, will they be there for me". If the answer is yes to all these, whether they use a drain or not is far less important. Dr. Rodger Shortt, Oakville, Ontario, plastic surgeon.
Tummy tucks are one of the most common procedures performed in plastic surgery. They are one of my most favorite given the changes that can be made to a person's body. It rejuvenates the abdomen and makes people feel confident. However, all procedures have some risks. It is the job of your surgeon and the surgical team to inform you of those risks, to help minimize those risks from occurring, and to be there for you to help manage those risks if they do. I think that last point is one that everybody considering surgery should think about very carefully when choosing their surgeon. I would break risks down a few ways: 1. Systemic risks from anesthesia are very rare. They can include heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and death. Although they sound terrible, they are exceptionally rare events. Everything has risks. Consider the risk of driving a car. Your surgeon, anesthetist, and nursing team will ensure that you are a good candidate for surgery and take all the necessary steps to minimize any of those complications. 2. Local issues. This could include scarring, asymmetry, wound healing issues, sutures which come to the surface rather than melting away. There can be bleeding, collection of swelling fluid, a temporary or permanent decreased sensation to the skin, and even skin necrosis, amongst others. Most of these are more nuisance type concerns that can be addressed in the office. Generally they would not have a lasting impact. 3. Cosmetic concerns. Cosmetic concerns could include poor scarring, poor position of scar, dogears at the end of the scar, fullness above the scar, unattractive bellybutton, need for some contouring liposuction, or others. Choosing surgeon that can give you a low position scar and a natural looking bellybutton is important. Make sure you understand in advance what the situation is for minor corrections, including when and what costs are associated. This is obviously just an overview. Make sure that you feel your surgeon has been thorough in going over all the risks and benefits (as well as alternative options), of surgery so you can make an informed choice. Breast fat transfer can improve cleavage. There are however limits to what it can do. Essentially the fat must be injected into the breast footplate. The breast footplate is defined as the base of the breast. Fat can be expanded beyond this somewhat to decrease the distance between the 2 breasts or to give more fullness in the upper breast. Certainly altering where the fat can be placed, to really customized the shape of her breast, is a positive feature of fat transfer over an implant. However, the position of the nipple in relationship to the volume of the breast is critical for nice looking aesthetics. If nipples are located more laterally, then filling the medial breast with a lots of fat is going to actually accentuate the appearance of the lateral nipple. Where fat is placed must be carefully considered to prevent giving an unnatural appearance to the breast. The direction the breast faces and the separation between them is largely predetermined and only subtly alterable. My suggestion is to patients is to get a fuller, beautiful breast...but not try to alter the position excessively as it could look unnatural and unattractive. Dr. Rodger Shortt, Oakville, Ontario.
It is quite common to do a tummy tuck and a breast surgery. We call this combination a mommy makeover. Most patients who want both done would end up having both done at the same time. The benefits include less cost, only a single recovery, less time away from work. You also get the full change all at once which is exciting. The downside is a slightly less comfortable recovery. Most of this is really over the first couple of days. After that there would not be a great deal of difference. Obviously there is more cost to do the combined procedure then if you only chose one. If for what ever reason doing it as separate procedures is your preference there generally would not be a downside to do that other than mentioned above. Dr. Rodger Shortt, Oakville Ontario.
Breast fat transfer can work great for correcting mild breast asymmetry and avoiding an implant. There are many positive aspects to that surgery. One down side to it is that the amount of fat that survives is a bit variable between patients. Approximately 50-60% may survive. It is a bit of a moving target. It is possible that the operated breast is made a bit bigger or left a bit smaller than the other side. I advise patients that we are trying to match the breasts as best possible, but they will never be the exact same. Obviously one can choose to make both breasts fuller with breast fat transfer as well. More fat is put into the smaller breast to improve the asymmetry. Dr. Rodger Shortt, Oakville, Ontario.
